Lord Sebastian Coe has expressed his delight after being elected the new president of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
The 58-year-old was named as Lamine Diack's official replacement in Beijing today.
The four-time Olympic medallist, who will take his place in office on August 31, beat Sergey Bubka by 115 votes to 92 at the 50th IAAF Congress in China.
After the announcement was made, Coe tweeted: "Delighted and humbled by the confidence shown in me by the IAAF family - thank you, now the hard work begins."
While speaking to Congress, Coe said: "I have to say that being given the opportunity to work with all of you to shape the future of our sport is probably the second biggest and most momentous occasion in my life [after the birth of my children]."
The run-up to the election has been marred by doping allegations, including confirmation from the IAAF that 32 "adverse findings" were discovered in samples of 28 athletes who competed at the World Championships in 2005 and 2007.
