Jonathan Edwards agrees with the World Anti-Doping Association's proposal to give drug cheats a second chance at Olympic glory and scrap the lifetime ban system.
WADA appear poised to have the ruling overturned and replaced by their two-year ban proposal despite resistance from the British Olympic Association.
Triple jump champion Edwards, an Olympic gold medalist at Sydney 2000, believes that would be the right move, but that suspensions should come in four-year rather than two-year stints
"Athletes should get a second chance, but two years is simply not enough. The world needs to unite and introduce four-year bans," he said.
Sir Chris Hoy and Lord Coe are two figures who have come out and spoken against the proposed changes, which would give athletes such as Dwain Chambers the chance to compete at this summer's London Games.
