Sir Chris Hoy has given his backing of lifetime Olympic bans for athletes that are caught using drugs.
The British Olympic Association, who hope to keep such bans, are currently battling it out in court with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
British athletes who have previously tested positive for banned substances will be allowed to compete at London 2012 if the BOA lose their case as expected.
"It will be sad if we have to fall in line with the rest of the world," four-time Olympic champion Hoy told BBC Sport.
"I don't see anything wrong with having more stringent rules. I think it should be the rest of the world that's falling in line with our rules.
"If you are caught for taking drugs, then you will not be allowed to compete in the Olympic Games. That to me is a good incentive not to take drugs."
Sprinter Dwain Chambers and cyclist David Millar would be two of the athletes allowed back in Team GB if WADA wins.
The Court of Arbitration are expected to announce the ruling next week.
