Kirani James comfortably reaches 400m semi-finals

Kirani James cruises to victory in his 400m heat to reach the semi-finals of the Commonwealth Games.

Olympic champion Kirani James qualified for the semi-finals of the 400m with a comfortable victory at Hampden Park on Monday morning.

The Grenadian was drawn in heat three for his debut at the Commonwealth Games, and his progression into the next round was never in doubt as he cruised home in a time of 45.52 seconds.

James was able to ease off the pace in the final 100m as a number of competitors struggled to keep in contact with the leading group.

England's Michael Bingham finished second with a time of 45.80, while Rusheen McDonald clinched the final automatic qualifying spot from heat three.
