Steve Way, Amy Whitehead confirmed in Team England for Commonwealth Games

Steve Way and Amy Whitehead are confirmed as Team England athletes for the marathon event at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this summer.

Steve Way and Amy Whitehead have been confirmed as members of Team England for the athletics event at this summer's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The pair have been selected to compete in the marathon, which will be held on July 27, after qualifying following their performances at the London Marathon.

"It's a fairy tale scenario," said Way. "It sounds cliche but I can't possibly put it into words how much I am looking forward to the Games. The excitement and prospect of my first major games and representing my country over the marathon distance, it's just quite unbelievable."

Whitehead added: "I'm absolutely over the moon. I've always wanted to make the Commonwealth Games and it's been a personal ambition of mine to get here. I would love to do as well as I possibly can. When you put on an England vest you want to do everybody proud."

Whitehead ran 2:16.27 in the London Marathon, which is three minutes off his best time, while Whitehead ran 2:34.20 in the capital.
