Tiki Gelana claimed gold for Ethiopia in the Women's Marathon, beating favourites such as Mary Jepkosgei Keitany with an Olympic record time of 2:23:07.
The 24-year-old ran smoothly, staying in the leading pack throughout the majority of the race.
The Kenyan pair, Priscah Jeptoo and Keitany, along with Tatyana Petrova Arkhipova, led with Gelana as they came into the final stretch.
However, pre-race favourite Keitany dropped off from the leaders, leaving it as a straight battle between Jeptoo and Gelana.
Gelana soon broke away, though, beating Jeptoo comfortably in the final sprint, with Arkhipova claiming the bronze medal.
