Adam Gemili pulls out of 100m final
Team England's Adam Gemili is forced to withdraw from the men's 100m final at the Commonwealth Games due to injury.

Team England sprinter Adam Gemili has been forced to withdraw from this evening's men's 100m final at the Commonwealth Games due to an injury to his adductor muscle.

Gemili was expected to be one of the closest challengers to Jamaica's Yohan Blake in the blue-riband event at the Games, which will take place in the Carrara Stadium at 1.15pm BST today.

The 24-year-old - who won silver in the event four years ago in Glasgow - was the third-fastest qualifier for the final, but has now pulled out of the race after being told by medical staff not to compete.

"I'm hugely gutted to announce that I have had to withdraw from the 100m final due to an injury I picked up in the semi-final yesterday," he wrote in a post on Twitter.

"I am proud to represent England and it is devastating not to have the chance to compete tonight but the doctors have said I am unable to take part.

"I want to thank everyone for their kind messages of support and love. I look forward to cheering on the rest of the team and getting back to competing shortly."

Gemili has also been forced to withdraw from the 4x100m relay, which was due to take place on Saturday.
