Team England medal hope Martyn Rooney was among the home nation runners to qualify for the semi-finals of the men's 400m at the Commonwealth Games.

The 27-year-old was holding back on the final straight and still managed clock a time of 45.57 seconds to win his heat ahead of Trinidad and Tobago's London 2012 bronze medalist Lalonde Gordon.
Rooney set the third fastest time overall, and teammate Michael Bingham was second to Olympic champion Kirani James, who cruised on a 45.52 lap, in the third of seven heats at Hampden Park.
They will be joined in tomorrow's semis by England's Nigel Levine, who qualified as the fastest of the fastest losers. Botswana's Isaac Makwala set the pace with a time of 45.33.
Bahamas pair Chris Brown and LaToy Williams, Trinidadian Jarrin Solomon and his compatriot Renny Quow were the other heat winners in Glasgow.
