England trio out in 400m hurdles heats, Scotland's Eilidh Child through

Scotland's Eilidh Child and gold medal favourite Kaliese Spencer qualify for the final of the women's 400m hurdles, but England's trio of runners fall short in Glasgow.

Team England trio Ese Okoro, Hayley McLean and Laura Wake have all failed to qualify for the final of the women's 400m hurdles at the Commonwealth Games.

Scotland's great medal hope Eilidh Child and Jamaica's Kaliese Spencer, world number one this season, both advanced as the winners of their Hampden Park heats.

Okoro came fifth in an opening semi-final which Child led from start to finish to cross the line with a 20m winning margin and a time of 55.56s.

Fifth place was not enough for either Okoro, McLean or Wake to get through as fastest losers, and it was Spencer who set the pace with a leisurely qualifying a lap of 55.45s.

Child was a silver medallist at the Games in Delhi four years ago.
