Isobel Pooley has suggested that there would be no excuses for her not jumping a personal best in the women's high jump final at the Commonwealth Games.
The 21-year-old Team England athlete earned the chance to fight for a medal in Glasgow by going over at 1.85m in qualifying at Hampden Park on Wednesday.
Pooley has admitted to being in the best shape of her career and therefore feels that her time has come to break her personal best effort of 1.91m, a jump that would put her into medal contention.
"I'd like to think so. I've been capable of jumping 1.93 all year, I've just found a series of excuses not to," she told reporters.
"I think the time's come to let go of all the excuses, just go out there and enjoy the event, because at the end of the day I love it. If it comes out with a 1.93 performance, great.
"Whatever happens, I'm deeply in love with this event. It sounds pathetic but that's my attitude and sticking to the plan helps me to find that even more so it's just a balance that I'm learning to find."
Saint Lucia's Levern Spencer has the best personal best in the field, having jumped 1.98m.
