Suspended Australia coach to leave Commonwealth Games

Athletics Australia announces that head coach Eric Hollingsworth will fly home after criticising hurdler Sally Pearson.

Athletics Australia has announced that head coach Eric Hollingsworth will fly home after being suspended by the organisation for criticising on of their competitors.

The coach had his accreditation for the Commonwealth Games revoked after branding Olympic 100m hurdles champion Sally Pearson a "bad example" for choosing to complete in a race in London rather than attending a pre-Games camp with the rest of the squad earlier this month.

Chef de mission Steve Monghetti said: "Athletics Australia withdrew Eric's nomination of head coach. This led to us revoking his accreditation and we have made arrangements for Eric to travel back to Australia at an appropriate time. He is going home today if we can get some flights arranged."

Pearson, who is also the defending Commonwealth champion, will be in action in this evening's athletics session at Hampden Park.
