Married Azerbaijan archers hope to compete together in Baku

Azerbaijan archers Taras and Olqa Senyuk, who are married, are hoping to compete together in the mixed team event at the European Games in Baku.

Husband and wife archers Taras and Olqa Senyuk have revealed that they are hoping to compete together in the mixed team competition in the European Games in Baku later this week.

The couple both took up Azerbaijani citizenship less than a year ago, and are the top-ranked male and female archers respectively for the host nation.

Taras, who is originally from Ukraine, told reporters: "It depends on our result. If two of us could make the best result in the qualification round then we will be in the mixed team.

"Mixed team competitions are the most unexpected and easier, because there are only two arrows per athlete [in a set] and everyone can shoot two arrows very well."

Modolva-born Olqa added: "Last year we shot as a mixed team in international tournaments, such as the Klimuk Cup in Belarus and the Ajara Cup in Georgia, and we won two gold medals for Azerbaijan."

Taras was the men's individual recurve junior champion in 2007.
