Simon Clegg: 'No staff caught drinking at European Games'

Baku European Games Operations Committee chief operating officer Simon Clegg insists that no members of staff have been caught drinking while on duty at the event.

Baku European Games Operations Committee boss Simon Clegg has insisted that no individual member of staff has been found to have consumed alcohol while on duty.

Accusations that workers have been drinking during their shifts at the inaugural games in Azerbaijan emerged on the opening day of competition.

When asked about the allegations at a press conference, Clegg replied: "Whoever raised this issue has not been able to give us significant information to identify the precise individual.

"However, I have followed this matter through with the games operations centre and security operations centre to ensure that if there were any incidents like this that they were drawn to the attention of the commanders. We have dealt with it as a general policy issue through the entire command structure."

Switzerland currently top the medal table, winning three golds, two silvers and a bronze in the first full day in Baku.
