Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III unfazed by contract talk

Robert Griffin III admits that it is up to him to prove he can get back to his best form to earn a new contract with the Washington Redskins.

Robert Griffin III has declared that he would not be fazed if the Washington Redskins opted against using the option to extend his contract into the 2016 season.

The 25-year-old had an excellent rookie season in the NFL as he guided the NFC East outfit to the playoffs, but his career has gone on a downward spiral since.

Griffin sustained a serious knee injury in the post-season defeat in the 2012 campaign, which has affected his play as he struggled for form in 2013, and was even benched for a period last year.

The Redskins now face a decision on whether to extend the contract of the quarterback before May 3 when the deadline for using the option passes.

"I wouldn't be bummed," Griffin told NFL Network. "Either way, we're going out there to prove it this upcoming year - not next year. I just want to win. I want to win games and have fun doing it.

"The rest will take care of itself. They can pick up the option - or they can decide not to pick up the option. It'll work out either way. I'm focused on this year."

Griffin has thrown for 8,907 yards and 40 touchdowns to 23 interceptions in his three years in the NFL.
