Robert Griffin III plans to be fit for the start of the 2013 season, but admits that he won't play if he is not ready.

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III has said that he is targeting a return to the NFL in week one of the regular season.

Griffin, who was injured in the 2012 playoffs, said that he would only play if his knee had fully recovered.

"My knee is getting better every day," ESPN quotes RG III as saying. "The doctors say I'm ahead of schedule. My goal is to return healthy in week one but if I'm not ready then I will wait until I am, however long that is.

"My first NFL season and my injury that ended it showed me a lot about the league, my team and myself."

RG III threw for 3,200 and rushed 815 yards last season.
