Washington Redskins release Devery Henderson

The Washington Redskins release veteran wide receiver Devery Henderson just two months after signing the 31-year-old.

The Washington Redskins have released veteran wide receiver Devery Henderson.

Henderson had only been with the Redskins for just over two months having joined on June 12, but he was deemed surplus to requirements by coach Mike Shanahan after failing to impress in pre-season training.

The 31-year-old is most notable for an eight-year spell with the New Orleans Saints, whom he helped to success in the Super Bowl in 2010.

Henderson has 245 career receptions for 4,377 yards and 20 touchdowns to his name, and also averages the highest yards per catch (17.9) among all active NFL receivers with over 200 catches.
