Washington Redskins linebacker London Fletcher has admitted that he will most likely retire from playing in the NFL at the end of the regular season.
The 16-year veteran is one of four players in league history to play 250 consecutive games, and that despite being undrafted when he graduated from college in 1998.
On Wednesday, Fletcher told reporters: "This is an opportunity to let the fans know that this is more than likely going to be my final year in the NFL.
"With Sunday being our last home game, this is a chance to say goodbye to the burgundy and gold faithful. I'm 99% certain that this will be my last season.
"I've got to leave one per cent open just in case. But I'll talk to my wife again and this will probably be it for me."
Before signing with the Redskins, Fletcher had spells with the Buffalo Bills and the St Louis Rams, with whom he twice appeared in the Super Bowl.
