Doug Marrone: 'EJ Manuel is not injury prone'

Doug Marrone has leapt to the defence of Buffalo Bills quarterback EJ Manuel after his latest knee injury.

Buffalo Bills coach Doug Marrone has stated that quarterback EJ Manuel is not prone to injuries, following his latest setback.

Manuel has been ruled out of the Bills' match with the Miami Dolphins on Sunday with a knee problem which he sustained in last weekend's victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

This is the third time that Manuel has suffered an injury to his knee this season and the Dolphins clash will be his fifth missed start.

However, Marrone defended the rookie, telling reporters: "People are going to think that and write that and I totally understand that. But my personal opinion is that he is not injury prone.

"His history has shown that he has never been hurt. He's gotten hurt here, yes. He re-injured that left knee that he hurt in training camp. When he has been injured, he has done everything he could to come back faster than what was expected, faster than what was possible."

The 23-year-old will be replaced in the starting lineup by fellow first-year quarterback Thad Lewis for Sunday's game.
