Bruce Allen has confirmed that the Washington Redskins will be active during free agency this year.

The NFC East side were subjected to a $36m (£21.8m) salary cap penalty last season, which leaves them around $30m (£18.2m) under the cap heading into the off-season.

The general manager told NFL Radio: "We'll have some room. We're gonna have some room to do some things. But we have some players who are free agents, and we're going to talk to them first, to try to retain them. But we have the ability to manoeuvre around, and we'll be active in free agency."

Outside linebacker Brian Orakpo, cornerbacks DeAngelo Hall and Josh Wilson, and inside linebacker Perry Riley are all set to become free agents later this year.
