Darrelle Revis: 'Injury held me back early in season'

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis admits that his injury held him back early in the season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis has admitted that he couldn't play to his full potential earlier in the season due to his injury.

Revis made his comeback from a torn ACL for his new side earlier in the campaign and was far from his best as he didn't play man coverage for the first time in his career.

The 28-year-old has built a reputation in his seven-year NFL career of shutting out the oppositions top wideout on what is known as 'Revis Island'.

"Earlier in the year, I didn't have the explosion to play press; the receiver would just run the nine-route on me and I didn't have the stamina to do that play in and play out, especially playing press," Revis told radio station WDAE.

"I mean, you get physical up there playing press coverage and then actually just running. That's running full speed — you and the receiver. I didn't have that yet.

"I'm starting to get that back now, which is awesome because I like to be in receivers faces and try to put my hands on them and try to be physical with them."

The Buccaneers are yet to win a game this season and are 0-7 going into week nine against the Seattle Seahawks.
