The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced that they have fired head coach Greg Schiano and general manager Mark Dominik.

Schiano was hired in the 2012 season following a successful spell at college side Rutgers and guided his team to a 7-9 finish, in his first campaign in the NFL.

However, following a quarterback controversy involving Josh Freeman along with reports of locker room discontent, the Buccaneers regressed despite making major moves in the off-season as they ended their year with a 4-12 record.

This gave the club's owners, the Glazer family, little choice to remove Schiano and the man who brought him to the club Dominik, who leave Tampa after five seasons with the club.

"The results over the past two years have not lived up to our standards and we believe the time has come to find a new direction," co-chairman Bryan Glazer said in a statement.

Schiano finished with a 11-21 record in his 32 games in charge of the Buccaneers.
