Sports Mole's Super Bowl predictions

Sports Mole's reporters predict the outcome of Super Bowl XLIX between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots.

The Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots face off in Super Bowl XLIX later today in Glendale, Arizona.

Pete Carroll's men are aiming to become the first team since the Patriots in 2004 to successfully defend the Vince Lombardi trophy.

Meanwhile, New England are looking to secure their fourth Super Bowl in the history of the franchise and cement their place as one of the dominant teams in NFL history.

Here, Sports Mole's reporters have given their predictions on which team will be triumphant at the University of Phoenix Stadium.

Simon Sinclair: New England Patriots 20-14 Seattle Seahawks

"The Patriots will secure their fourth Super Bowl crown and their first in 10 seasons as they will put just enough points on the Seahawks' vaunted defense to claim the title.

"Tom Brady will use the short passing game to negate the physical force of the 'Legion of Boom' while LeGarrette Blount will have a good day in the rushing game, exposing Seattle's lack of depth in the middle of their defensive line.

"Marshawn Lynch will get some yardage in reply in the ground for Seattle, but it will not be enough to guide his team to victory as the Patriots' defense will shut down Russell Wilson's passing offense."

Joe McPhee: New England Patriots 21-17 Seattle Seahawks

"I think the Patriots are going to edge this one. If their defense can hurry Russell Wilson into mistakes like the Packers did, New England will punish Seattle in a way which Green Bay could not.

"I'm not sure that the Pats will have the ground success that they did last time out versus the Indianpolis Colts, but I think Brady will step up and win this one. Of course, he is at an advantage this year as he's not up against the force that is Eli Manning!"

Sumeet Paul: New England Patriots 24-21 Seattle Seahawks

"The Patriots have a chip on their shoulder after 'deflategate' and that 'us against them' mentality will work in their favour.

"New England will limit the run from Lynch while daring Wilson to throw. The Seahawks defense is stifling, but Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowksi and Bill Belichick will make sure that there is no repeat of Seattle's triumph in the title game last year."

Charlie Bennett: Seattle Seahawks 24-20 New England Patriots

"I think that the Seahawks will prevail and win back-to-back Super Bowls. They look like a team on a mission and, as Green Bay found out, they're almost impossible to stop in their current form.

"Their defense is the best in the league and, after they managed to beat Aaron Rodgers and his Packers offense two weeks ago, Tom Brady and the Patriots will not faze them.

"Meanwhile, they have a deadly running back in Marshawn Lynch, and a quarterback in Russell Wilson who surely cannot play as bad as he did against Green Bay."
