Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman has backed teammate Kam Chancellor in his holdout to secure a new contract from the club.
The 27-year-old had refused to attend the opening four days of the club's training camp as he seeks an improved contract after watching Bobby Wagner and Russell Wilson receive lucrative deals.
Chancellor was awarded a four-year contract extension in the 2013 season and will make $4.5m (£2.8m) for the 2015 season, but Sherman feels that his teammate is well within his rights to attempt to secure a new deal.
"He's taking a stand and I support him," Sherman told reporters. "Whenever you take a stand like this, you don't get a lot of support from the fans because of how the fans feel like about honoring contracts. But we understand this business."
Chancellor has recorded 398 tackles, two sacks and eight interceptions in his five-year NFL career.
