Pete Carroll excited by Denver Broncos match

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is looking forward to a "great match-up" when his side face the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl on February 2.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll has predicted a "great match-up" when his side take on the Denver Broncos in the Super Bowl on February 2.

The occasion will be just the second time that the top seeds have reached the Super Bowl in the last 20 seasons after the Broncos overcame the New England Patriots and the Seahawks beat the San Francisco 49ers in yesterday's championship games.

The match will put the NFL's stingiest defense against Peyton Manning and the Bronco's record-breaking offense, and Carroll is looking forward to a good contest.

"It will be a great matchup. I think it's an extraordinary opportunity to go against a guy that set all the records in the history of the game," Carroll told The AP.

Carroll also reflected on his side's "special" victory over the 49ers, paying tribute to the fans for the part they played in the team's success.

"This is really special. It would really be a mistake to not remember the connection and the relationship between this football team and the 12th Man and these fans. It's unbelievable," he added.

"It's quite a magical moment. You can't really grasp the moment. Did we really do this?"

The Seahawks have never won the Super Bowl, only reaching the showpiece event once, where they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2005.
