Jonathan Martin released by San Francisco 49ers

Jonathan Martin begins his search for a new team after he was released by the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday.

The San Francisco 49ers have officially released Jonathan Martin after just one season with the organisation.

Martin started nine games for former coach Jim Harbaugh in 2014 after being acquired for a conditional pick, but has now followed him through the exit door.

The former second-round Draft selection was at the centre of a controversial bullying scandal during his time with the Miami Dolphins, as it was established that teammates Richie Incognito and John Jerry inflicted a prolonged series of mental and verbal abuse on him.

After initially walking away from the game, Martin seemingly had a new opportunity but will now look to join up with a new team for training camp.
