Colt McCoy pleased with personal improvement

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colt McCoy believes that he is starting to find his feet at the franchise after a shaky start.

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colt McCoy has revealed that he has finally begun to grasp his side's offence following a shaky start to pre-season.

McCoy had failed to impress for much of the 49ers' warm-up campaign and his place on the roster came under threat when veteran Seneca Wallace was brought in on Thursday.

However, the 26-year-old has since been confirmed as the number two quarterback behind Colin Kaepernick as well as successfully restructuring his contract at the weekend, and he believes that things are starting to come together for him after featuring in his side's 34-14 win over the Minnesota Vikings last night.

"Between each of us, we kind of figured each other out a bit better. I played better, first of all. It's been good. [Coach Jim Harbaugh] reiterated that [I'd be the backup] to me, too. This is a tremendous team. It's well coached, it's a great organization from top to bottom. When I was approached, again this is personal, but I'm glad to be here. That's new to me. I've never done anything like that," McCoy told The Associated Press about his new contract agreement.

"I hadn't pick up on the offence as well as I'd like to, and that's no one's fault but mine. I'm staying up there until midnight trying to just figure things out. Maybe I was thinking a little too much, maybe not. For whatever reason I just picked up on it a little slower.

"Over the last week, I just really feel like things have kind of come together, I've practised really well. Minus a couple exceptions, I thought I played well tonight. All of that is just confidence for me moving forward. Was I ever scared or nervous? No. I wasn't worried about the situation. I was more concerned about me getting a grasp of what's going on."

The 49ers face the San Diego Chargers in their final warm-up game on Thursday before getting their regular season underway against the Green Bay Packers on September 8.
