Vernon Davis has said that Alex Smith should regain his place as the San Francisco 49ers' starting quarterback.

Colin Kaepernick has started the last two games for the 49ers after Smith sustained a concussion two weeks ago.

The tight end told reporters: "It's difficult, but I think Alex is still the man.

"In my heart I strongly believe that and you'll know next week. I'm sure [San Francisco coach Jim] Harbaugh will make a nice decision who he wants to go with but right now we have two outstanding playmakers."

Kaepernick has led the 49ers to two wins as starting quarterback since Smith's injury.
