Philip Rivers: 'Ryan Mathews has been impressive this year'

San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers believes that running back Ryan Mathews has been excellent for his side this season, rushing the ball for over 1,000 yards.

San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers feels that the form displayed by running back Ryan Mathews this season has been "impressive".

Mathews has rushed for 1,012 yards this season on 236 carries at an average of 4.3 yards a rush along with scoring five touchdowns.

Rivers told reporters: "You just saw a confidence, and I just felt like he was ready to have his best year, and he has done that. It's been impressive.

"The way he has been running, getting to the second level and always falling forward, it's always fun to watch him do it."

The Chargers are 7-7 in their season and still have an outside hope of reaching the AFC playoffs, but will need both the Baltimore Ravens and the Miami Dolphins to lose their last two games.
