The Kansas City Chiefs have taken a 16-7 lead into their crucial match against the San Diego Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium this evening.
It was the hosts who made the brighter start to the AFC West showdown, and they took the lead through Cairo Santos when he converted a 43-yard field goal.
The Chiefs then got a big slice of luck to extend their lead further as Dwayne Bowe fumbled a pass right on the edge of the endzone, with the ball bouncing kindly for Travis Kelce to recover for the touchdown.
San Diego hit back just two minutes later, however, keeping their playoff hopes alive through Branden Oliver, who burst into the endzone from a yard out.
Kansas City pushed hard to extend their lead with a second touchdown of their own, but they were limited to a field goal as Santos knocked his kick over from just 21 yards.
Santos added his third kick of the match shortly afterwards to extend the gap to nine points in a match that could see his side progress to the playoffs depending on results elsewhere.
The Chiefs would also need the Baltimore Ravens and the Houston Texans to lose in order to get the AFC wildcard spot, while the Chargers simply need to win to make the playoffs.
