Coach Mike Tomlin says that the Pittsburgh Steelers will continue to prepare for Charlie Batch to start at quarterback on Sunday until Ben Roethlisberger proves his fitness.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have confirmed that they are preparing for Charlie Batch to start as quarterback again this week.

Regular starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has missed three games with rib and shoulder injuries, but may be ready to return this weekend.

Coach Mike Tomlin said: "Ben threw Monday, and I guess it could be termed successfully. We'll see what it looks like on a football field [today], and he'll be given an opportunity to prove that he is healthy.

"Obviously, Charlie is our guy, and we'll prepare for that like we did a week ago.

"We'll see where the week takes us, and I think once we get out there that will provide some clarity for us so we can make firm decisions. But we'll build our plan around Charlie until we see what Ben can do."

The Steelers face the San Diego Chargers on Sunday.
