LeSean McCoy "surprised" by DeSean Jackson release

Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy admits that he was taken aback when his side released wide receiver DeSean Jackson.

Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy has admitted that he was surprised by the decision to release DeSean Jackson.

Jackson was released by the Eagles last month amid reports of gang activity, which was denied by the player.

The 27-year-old was quickly snapped by their NFC East rivals the Washington Redskins and will play twice against Chip Kelly's side next season.

"It's a surprise for sure," McCoy told PhillyMag.com. "I think anybody that tells you that they're happy about it, I don't know how honest that would be.

"It was a surprise. You heard so much, you didn't really know. Not playing with him this year is gonna definitely be different. And playing against him is really gonna be different.

"I just imagine all the times we used to knowing defensive teams are gonna try to defend us and different things like that, and now we've gotta defend against him, so it's gonna be a little different."

Jackson recorded 82 receptions for 1,332 yards along with nine touchdowns for the Eagles last season.
