Nick Foles has been named as the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles' second pre-season match.

Foles is currently competing with Michael Vick to be the franchise's number one quarterback and the latter was chosen to start the opening pre-season match against the New England Patriots last week.

However, coach Chip Kelly is keen to rotate the duo and has handed Foles the starting spot for Thursday's match against the Carolina Panthers, a decision that the 24-year-old is hoping he can justify.

"I need to go out there and execute the offense and put points on the board," Foles told The AP.

"That's always been the ultimate goal. Just learn from the last one and move forward, just take these practices and get better. It's the same way I've approached everything I've always done. I'm not changing anything.

"I'm going to keep doing the things that I've done my whole life that got me here, and that is just work as hard as I possibly can and take it one play a time."

Kelly has named both players as the number one quarterback in the team's official depth chart, leaving it unclear as to who is the favourite to start the season opener against the Washington Redskins on September 9.
