Former basketball star Magic Johnson has stated that the city of Los Angeles is ready to once again have an NFL franchise based there.

LA has not had a team since the Raiders moved to Oakland during the mid-'90s, but current owner Mark Davis has held talks recently about moving them on once more.

Reports last month suggested that Davis and Raiders back office men met several city officials about the possibility of moving his team from Oakland to San Antonio in the near future.

However, Johnson has admitted that he would welcome a return of a football team in his city, and he believes that they will soon get one.

He told Yahoo! Sports: "I think for the first time, I truly believe we're going to get a team. Finally.

"Everybody is on board. The city is on board. The business community is on board. The NFL is on board. Finally we have momentum.

"In the next couple years, at least in the next 24 months, I think one team will be coming. It would be great to have the Raiders back in LA, I would love for that to happen - we just want a team. That's going to be up to Mark and the Raiders and the NFL. But I would love to have the Raiders back in LA where they belong.

Last month, former Raiders running back Marcus Allen also said that the team should return South.
