Matt Simms has said that he has been able to play with a "tremendous amount of confidence" with the New York Jets.
The quarterback started for the AFC East side against the Philadelphia Eagles last night.
The 24-year-old told the team's website: "The best thing that [offensive coordinator] Marty [Mornhinweg]'s done for me is he's put me in a good position to be successful and show off my talent and also he's allowed me to play with a tremendous amount of confidence that I haven't had since high school.
"Let me know if I have the highest completion percentage and all that stuff in December when everything counts It's nice. Hopefully that's helped my cause to stay here and be a Jet. But at the same time, it is pre-season, and we need to keep things realistic.
"I just held on to the ball for too long. That's why they were able to strip it from me, and that's just something that I need to learn from and make sure I don't repeat that again."
Simms completed 285 passing yards during last night's game.
