Mark Sanchez has said that it was embarrassing to fumble the ball after running into a teammate's behind in last week's loss to the New England Patriots.

The New York Jets quarterback lost the ball when his head collided with Brandon Moore, in what has been branded a "butt-fumble".

Sanchez told the Associated Press: "I guess [I was] more stunned than anything, just like a car accident. I was like, 'Whoa. What just happened?' Then, the ball's gone. It was weird.

"It's embarrassing. You screw up the play, and I'm trying to do the right thing. It's not like I'm trying to force something. I start to slide, and I slide right in the worst spot I possibly could, right into Brandon Moore."

The Patriots recovered the ball, scoring a defensive touchdown.

Sanchez added that he hopes to be able to laugh about the incident in the future.
