Rex Ryan considering wristband ploy for Geno Smith

New York Jets coach Rex Ryan is considering reintroducing the coloured quarterback wristband tactic that he first used with Mark Sanchez back in 2009.

New York Jets coach Rex Ryan is considering reintroducing his colour-coded quarterback wristband tactic to help struggling rookie Geno Smith.

Smith has had a tough start to life as an NFL quarterback, culminating in last Sunday's 38-13 defeat to the Tennessee Titans, where he conceded four turnovers to take his overall season total to 11.

That has got Ryan considering the same ploy he used with Mark Sanchez in 2009 where the quarterback would wear a green, red and yellow wristband, with specific plays and level of aggression associated with each category.

"Hey, whatever it takes. I've been thinking about it. There's a fine line between being aggressive and being smart with it as well," Ryan is quoted as saying by ESPN.

With a quarter of the season already gone, the Jets are currently 2-2 and face the Atlanta Falcons next Tuesday.
