New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez will undergo shoulder surgery that will rule him out for the rest of the season, according to a report.
Sanchez sustained the injury to his shoulder during pre-season in his side's clash with the New York Giants and was placed on their injured reserve - designated to return list.
However, the 26-year-old has decided that it is unlikely he will be able to return in the current campaign and will now undergo surgery to rectify the problem, which will rule him out for six months, reports NFL Network.
Sanchez has been replaced by rookie quarterback Geno Smith in the Jets' lineup who has guided them to a 2-2 record so far this season.
