New York Jets quarterbacks coach David Lee has revealed that Mark Sanchez is struggling with a toe injury.

Sanchez is currently in a battle with second round draft pick Geno Smith for the starting job for Rex Ryan's side this season.

Lee told reporters: "They are digging a hole in Mark Sanchez's toe big enough to pull a half dollar out of it because he has got some nail that's infected. He doesn't blink, he doesn't tell me."

The Jets face Cleveland Browns in their regular season opener on September 8.
