New York Jets general manager John Idzik says that he is happy to let Mark Sanchez compete for the starting quarterback role in the side.

John Idzik has said that he is "comfortable" with Mark Sanchez playing for the New York Jets.

The Jets had problems at the quarterback position during 2012, with none of the three QBs on their roster establishing themselves as the outright favourite.

The new general manager told WFAN-AM: "I feel comfortable with Mark being a Jet. I told him we're going to add competition and everyone should be up for it. It's going to make Mark, and everybody else, better.

"He wants to get going with his new coordinator. He's all about competing. I got a really good feeling from Mark."

Sanchez was the Jets' starter for much of the season, but lost his place to Greg McElroy for one game.
