New York Giants earn seventh win to end season

The New York Giants secure a victory over the Washington Redskins to end their season with seven wins.

The New York Giants have ended their season with a victory as they beat NFC East rivals the Washington Redskins 20-6 at MetLife Stadium.

The game started slowly with both sides struggling immensely to move the ball downfield, as possession after possession was punted away by Sam Rocca and Steve Weatherford.

New York were also turning the ball over as Andre Brown fumbled and Josh Wilson gathered for the Redskins, which led to a field goal from Kai Forbath, who kicked a 31-yarder between the posts to hand his side the lead.

However, the Giants responded in their next drive as they took the lead. Eli Manning moved his team downfield and fired a 24-yard strike to Jerrel Jernigan in the endzone to make a good catch between two defenders.

Just before the end of the half, New York added a field goal as Josh Brown fired over from 34 yards, but seconds later Kai Forbath reduced his team's deficit to four points with a 49-yarder.

Manning left the game at the end of the half with an injury and did not return, meaning that backup quarterback Curtis Painter came into the game and handed the ball off to Jernigan on an endaround and he ran 49 yards for a touchdown.

The Redskins could not match the Giants' score as quarterback Kirk Cousins continued to struggle and Brown made it a 14-point game in the fourth quarter when he fired a kick through the posts from 38 yards.

New York held out comfortably for the win as Trumaine McBride intercepted Cousins in the dying seconds of the game.
