Hakeem Nicks plays down Victor Cruz injury

New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks plays down the injury suffered by teammate Victor Cruz during his side's loss to the Indianapolis Colts.

New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks has played down concerns over the fitness of Victor Cruz after he was forced to limp off during his side's pre-season match against the Indianapolis Colts last night.

Cruz is believed to have suffered a bruised heel during the Giants' 20-12 defeat, although the exact severity of the injury is as yet unconfirmed.

However, Nicks revealed that Cruz told him he was "fine" following the injury and does not believe that it is too serious.

"He said he felt fine. I don't really know what the details of what the injury was but he said he was fine," Nicks told reporters.

"I really don't think it is that serious. I think they just played it safe by holding him out. But I don't really know too many details about it."

Cruz faces a race to be fit for the start of the new NFL season, which kicks off for the New York Giants against the Dallas Cowboys on September 8.
