New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks urges fans to be patient with him as he looks to minimise the risk of further injury.

New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks has revealed that he is taking limited part in pre-season training in order to ease himself back from injury.

Nicks is regarded as one of the most dangerous receivers in the NFL when fit, but he is yet to complete a full season without succumbing to injury.

The 25-year-old, who hopes to return to training this afternoon having recovered from his latest injury, has urged fans to be patient with him during his slow rehabilitation process.

"I know the situation. I am the one wearing these shoes. So to all the fans, it is not about me being lazy or anything like that," Nicks told reporters.

"It is about making the right decisions, about making sure that when it is time to go for the season-opening game, I will be full ready to go and it will be on and going from there.

"I know the way I am going to play this game, and I am going to be playing it for a long time."

Nicks was part of the Giants side that won the Super Bowl in 2011.
