The New York Giants have released veteran defensive end Israel Idonije as part of their roster cutdown.
The 33-year-old was signed in the off-season to help bolster the Giants' pass-rush, but struggled to make an impact in training camp and pre-season and as a result has failed to make the 53-man roster.
The Giants also chose to part company with veteran quarterback Curtis Painter, full-back John Conner and tight end Kellen Davis as they have found themselves surpassed on the depth chart.
Tom Coughlin's side also cut Mark Asper, Michael Cox, Chandler Fenner, Dan Fox, Kendall Gaskins, Thomas Gordon, Adam Gress, Bennett Jackson, Jamaal Johnson-Webb, Terrell Manning, Kelcie Quarles, Jordan Stanton and Julian Talley.
