New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin has revealed that he is unsure when defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul will be able to return to practice.
The 26-year-old had to have his right index finger amputated following an accident on July 4 when he attempted to light fireworks.
New York's medical staff could not evaluate the defensive end's progress in the aftermath of the incident, but Coughlin has revealed that Pierre-Paul has made contact to signal his intention to return to practice.
"He's looking forward to coming," Coughlin told reporters. "He's anxious to be here. But he's not going to come until he feels like he's ready to be able to play.
"It could be whatever amount of time. I'm not even going to speculate."
Pierre-Paul has recorded 286 tackles, 42 sacks and two interceptions in his five-year NFL career.
