New York Giants tight end Daniel Fells has been released from hospital after receiving treatment for an MRSA infection.
Fells had been in hospital since October 2 after he was diagnosed with the infection, and there was a concern that he would need to have his foot amputated to prevent the infection from spreading.
The 32-year-old has been forced to undergo seven operations, with two more scheduled, but his doctors are comfortable with him going home as they believe that the infection is under control.
Fells was immediately placed on the season-ending reserve list and he will almost certainly be forced to announce his retirement from the NFL.
