Danny Amendola to have surgery on hip injury?

New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola could require surgery on a hip injury that he picked up in the opening game of the NFL season.

New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola could require surgery on a hip injury that he picked up during the opening match of the season, according to a report.

Amendola initially suffered a groin injury during his side's pre-season match against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on August 16, causing him to miss the Patriots' final two warm-up games.

He was able to return for their opening match of the season against the Buffalo Bills last Sunday, but aggravated the injury during the second quarter and played through the pain for the rest of the match.

Fox Sports now reports that the 27-year-old has torn adductor muscles in his hip and could also have a sports hernia that would require surgery.

Should an operation take place, then Amendola is likely to be sidelined for at least one month, while avoiding surgery should allow him to return to action sooner.

Amendola, who is in his first season with the Patriots, made a team-high 10 catches for 104 yards during the opening match of the season.
