Christian Ponder: 'Matt Cassel is our starting quarterback'

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder reveals that he could be the odd man out for his side at the quarterback position when the season starts in September.

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Christian Ponder has admitted that he is in a fight to stay on the club's roster during training camp.

The 26-year-old was selected in the first round of the 2011 Draft by the club, but has failed to secure the starting spot in his three seasons in Minnesota.

Mike Zimmer's side selected Teddy Bridgewater in the first round of the 2014 Draft and also have veteran Matt Cassel on the roster, leaving Ponder as the odd man out in the position.

"We'll see how it plays out once it goes to training camp," Ponder told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. "But obviously there's an agenda to try to get Teddy ready, and Cassel's the starter right now."

Ponder threw for 1,678 yards along with seven touchdowns and nine interceptions in his nine games for the Vikings in the 2013 season.
