Jeff Ireland thanks Miami Dolphins following departure

Former Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland thanks owner Stephen Ross and the rest of the team following his departure from the franchise yesterday.

Former Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland has thanked team owner Stephen Ross for the support he showed him during his time at the franchise.

Ireland parted company with the Dolphins yesterday after a turbulent season that saw the team lose their final two games to miss out on the playoffs with an 8-8 record.

Miami were also embroiled in a bullying scandal after Jonathan Martin alleged that he was being harassed by teammate Richie Incognito, resulting in the former leaving the team and the latter being suspended.

However, despite things not going too smoothly for the franchise, Ireland insisted that he enjoyed his six-year stint with the team and was keen to show his gratitude to those he worked with.

"I've spent the last six years with the best organization in football. Steve and I came to an agreement that the best thing moving forward for all parties would be to part ways," Ireland said in a statement.

"I'd like to thank Steve for all his support and kindness. I've had the opportunity to work with some of the most amazing people during this time and I'd like to thank them all from the bottom of my heart."

The Dolphins also fired offensive coordinator Mike Sherman on Monday.
