Half-Time Report: Miami Dolphins edge ahead against New York Jets

The Miami Dolphins open up a 17-14 lead over the New York Jets in the final week of the regular season in the NFL.

The Miami Dolphins edged ahead just before half time to lead 17-14 in a closely-fought game with the New York Jets in the final NFL clash of the regular season this evening.

The Jets had a chance to get off the mark early on, but kicker Nick Folk saw his 45-yard field goal effort strike the upright and deflect wide.

Caleb Sturgis opened the scoring with a short field goal for the Dolphins, but the lead was short-lived as Geno Smith handed the ball off to rookie wide receiver Chris Owusu, who found the endzone from 22 yards out on his first career rushing carry.

The home side moved back ahead when Smith fumbled the ball deep in New York territory, leaving Daniel Thomas to run the ball in from just a few yards out for the Dolphins.

Smith made amends for the turnover before the end of the second quarter though, completing a short pass to an unmarked Chris Ivory to restore the Jets' lead.

However, Charles Clay managed to get free in the final minute of the half, leaving Ryan Tannehill to pick out the tight end for another Miami touchdown.
