Hakeem Nicks: 'Carolina Panthers backed Indianapolis Colts move'

Hakeem Nicks admits that the Carolina Panthers suggested that he joined Indianapolis Colts despite interest from his hometown club.

Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Hakeem Nicks has revealed that the general manager of another interested team the Carolina Panthers Dave Gettleman told him that his new team's offer was the best one on the table.

Nicks, born in North Carolina, opted for a one-year deal with the Colts to prove himself and said that he fully intends to show his new team just what he can do.

"Yeah they made an offer when I talked to Dave Gettleman," Nicks told the Charlotte Observer. "But you know it just didn't pan out the right way. I feel like this is the best fit for me.

"After talking to Gettleman, I think he agreed that this was the best situation for me, too, even though they made the offer. Like I said, I feel like I made the best decision and I'm ready to make the best of it.

"I didn't really like [any] of the situations, and I didn't want to get myself in a long-term situation that I didn't like. This is a great organisation and a chance to show them what I can do and what I can bring to the table."

The former New York Giants man was drafted in 2009 and spent five years with the club.
